My Anime Rankings

Locodol Anime

I decided to create this blog to explain how I rank different anime. If you would like a reminder on how I rate shows just see the link here, My Rating System.”

I don’t compare anime with each other I just rank them base on how I feel about them. For example, I would normally rate Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun with a One Thumb’s-Up, but as it has made me laugh a lot I bumped the show up to One Thumb’s-Up and a Pinky. There are some anime in the One Thumb’s-Up and a Pinky that I don’t like as much as the others. I like Gonna Be the Twin-Tail! and Cat Planet Cuties! more than The Testament of Sister New Devil. I like those shows more than One Thumb’s-Up, but not quite enough to give them two. As a compromise I’ve gone half way by giving One Thumb’s-Up and a Pinky.

I decided that I’m not necessarily going to review every single anime that I have watched or am currently watching. With some of them I don’t necessarily have anything to say except that “I think it was good” or “I thought that was ok.” I enjoyed the anime World Break: Aria Curse for a Holy Swordsman but I don’t really have anything to say about the show at this moment in time. I enjoyed it and I liked the concept of the characters remembering what they did in their past lives. However, I don’t have anything to say about it. I just liked it. I may write a review about it in the future but not anytime soon.

Here is my ranked anime list.

THANKS FOR READING

No Game No Life wallpaper

From now on when I review anime I will add the link of this blog to each one. I will put it under the conclusion heading of the review and right next to the “My Rating System” link. I don’t know if I will do a separate blog to list my ratings for manga, films and games. I’m happy at the moment just doing this.

Thanks for reading. =)

Mushibugyou to release multiple OVAs

Image

Konichiwa.^^/

I’m pleased to hear of the news that the anime, Mushibugyou, will release a couple of OVAs in the near future. The first one will be released on 18th July. July is going to be a very good month for me, in more ways than one.^^

For those who haven’t seen the anime or read the manga, Mushibugyou is set in Tokyo during the Edo-era. Tokugawa Yoshimune, the eighth shogun, created a new magistrate unit, the Mushibugyou, to protect the civilians from giant insects. Mushi is another term for insects/bugs and bugyou means Magistrate. =)

I first saw this on Crunchyroll and I must admit, my expectations were low and they didn’t really grow much for the first 8 episodes or so. I started to enjoy this a lot, lot more when a certain character made her debut. From then on, I would wait excitedly for each episode to be released weekly. All the characters are quirky, the fights are very good, the girls have beautiful designs and there is no heavy drama involved. This became an instant favourite of mine and I was severely disappointed when it ended. I also enjoyed the relationships that the girls had with Jinbei. They were all unique and endearing; the forbidden love between Jinbei and Kuroageha was especially interesting.

Apparently, the whole season of Mushibugyou covered a good 100 chapters of the alternative manga; Joujuu Senjin!! Mushibugyou. I heard as well that the conclusion of the fight in the anime differed to that of the manga. I wasn’t too surprised when I heard this because the same situation happened with Sekirei. In the latest season, Sekirei: Pure Engagement, in order so as not to run ahead of the Manga, the production crew created a conclusive storyline. Ironically, I find it interesting that Seven Arcs produced both Mushibugyou and Sekirei.

If I were to change anything, I would have divided the anime show into more than one season. If the anime had covered all the arcs, it would have caught up with the timeline in the manga. I would assume the anime would have missed out a lot of the plot from the manga and likely added a few anime-only materials in order to conclude the story. Apart from that, I have no qualms.^^

It makes me wonder what will happen in the OVAs. If they really did catch up with the events in the manga then it would mean that these OVAs will be anime-only materials. I anticipate that we will get a beach episode because there’s official artwork of the beautiful female cast wearing bikinis and have that “beach” feel to them. Plus, it seems imperative for most anime to have at least one beach orientated episode. Haha. =D

It would be nice if Mushibugyou was released in English, perhaps licensed by Seven Seas or Kodansha. Sadly, it doesn’t look like this will happen, at least not in the near future. It even has a game out for the 3DS, but I can’t get it, since its Japan only. My only hope really is for Mushibugyou anime to be licensed by America, then the UK. I think MVM will more likely go after this anime rather than Manga Entertainment, I don’t know why, it’s just an inkling. =)

At some point I will write a more comprehensive review of this anime as I really, really like it and have a lot to say. I have two music CD’s sung by the characters Hibachi and Oharu and the 2014 calendar of Mushibugyou. It’s currently May/June and it is a collage photo of Jinbei. What fun. =)

Happy New Year!

Happy 2014! ^^/

How did you celebrate your new year?

I spent my new year at my brothers. This is also a tradition of mine. I spend Christmas Eve at my sisters and I spent my New Year’s Eve/morning at my brother’s.

I used to spend all my time at home with Mum but over the past few years I’ve spent the festive celebrations outside of my home. The keyword here is ‘outside’ of my home.

This year we played a multiplayer game on the Nintendo Wii U (I can’t remember the name) and played who am I? I’ll go into depth with this bit in a few paragraphs time. 😉

To celebrate the New Year we put on Sky News and watched the countdown on the Big Ben clock. The fireworks, as ever, were magnificent. The few fireworks that went off in the neighbouring houses were pleasant on the eyes too. However, no fireworks can top the ones on the London Eye, or is it called the London Wheel? It was that big wheel that was built in the Millennium! It was how you would describe a spectacle. As soon as Big Ben hits the 00:00 of each year we would clug our drinks. I used my J2O as a cup clugger.

To get into the atmosphere better we turned down the lights. We were watching the fireworks when someone suddenly appeared in the front window! As you can imagine this made me jump out of my skin! I think some random stranger jumping in the front window and knocking on the window would scare anyone. ‘Who was this strange nutter?’ is what I thought. I knew who it was as soon as I heard her shout- my sister. XD!

She was celebrating her new years at her friend’s house who ironically was just a couple of houses down from my brother’s house. Along with a friend she came to clug her glasses with all of us. I didn’t really mind this but I can’t say that I appreciated her surprise entrance!

Ahem-

I had a bit of a trouble that very evening, (well, three in fact), with funny consequences I must admit. First one, I took my friend’s go on a game and made him come in last place. Second, I dropped my brother’s Sonic cup. Third… Well. Let’s just say I gave away a very good answer in the Who Am I? game.

I might have mentioned in the earlier blogs that I give answers or secrets away. I gave a huge spoiler away to my Mum on what happens in the last Harry Potter film, that evening. We all assign real/fiction people to each other. I gave my Brother’s Fiancée Mr Gingerbread Man, Cheese gave me Charmeleon from Pokémon, Sarah gave my Brother Sonic and my Brother gave Cheese Chris Eubank. A very good person I might say. However, my brother asked me, ‘can you see who Liam has?’ I then turned to the paper sheet and said, ‘oh yeah, Chris Eubank.’ …you can probably imagine what happened next! My brother gave quite a scream rage. XD I can understand why.

I don’t mean to give answers away like that. It happens naturally, too naturally for my liking. I subconsciously need to confirm my thoughts by speaking out loud. So I said Chris Eubank out loud to confirm to myself that I knew who Cheese was… I seriously didn’t think. And I will probably get yelled at for saying this but I thought this was quite hilarious, especially my brother’s reaction! I mean, I couldn’t do this on purpose, even if I tried! I don’t necessarily find the situation funny but more the irony. XD!

If I’m honest I was ready for bed at 12:30. I opted to stay at my brother’s though since I was able to save my pennies for a taxi and get a kind lift with a friend.

This is quite an improvement on my part. I got a lift with a friend with no family members present. I’m quite familiar with these friends so I don’t necessarily need family presence to feel at ease and safe. Additionally, I’m able to think what is more convenient rather than worry about social matters.

I don’t know about you but 2014 is going to be a cracking year for everyone, especially for those who I know and are related to. =) The only down side is that I’m still going to bed at 2/3 am in the morning. Oh deary me! To commemorate the New Year I will show you a couple of photos from my calendar, the Anime Mushibugyou!

This is January and February. In Japan each page covers two months. Quite fascinating, don’t you think? =)

Have a good 2014, everyone. ^^/
