Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma Episode Nine Thoughts

Erina Endcard

I really do like Hinako, she’s very cute. Even though she has a fearsome reputation she acts very relaxed and sweet. I do think her moral dropped after Soma took away her Kaki-no-Tane. It was all for a good cause though as he served her that very same tea snack as part of a dish. I can’t describe it but he sort of coated the fish with the Kaki-no-Tane chips. I also really like the fact how Hinako is voiced by Mamiko Noto. I just know when a character is being voiced by Mamiko as she has that distinctive voice about her. I get drawn into her voice and characters every time. =)

Hinako summed up Soma perfectly in that he’s very creative despite time running against him. She looked pretty as a mermaid but I did crack up laughing when the man behind her had a meat-type head. I’m not really sure how else to describe it except that I thought it was funny. XD

I unexpectedly started to like Takumi in this episode. I pictured him to be an arrogant lad but I think he’s probably more awkward then arrogant. It was especially funny when he made that dramatic speech about next time he sees Soma it will be in a Shokugeki battle… only to find out that they would sit next to each other on the bus!  I guess all the long he just needed a rival and a friend who he can relate with. One thing for sure, Takumi and Soma will definitely respect each other from now on.

It looks like everyone in the Polar Star gang managed to survive by one day… for now. Now all the students have to serve 50 servings each to the muscular athletes. I felt sorry for Yuuki as she was looking forward to relax but now she can’t. The way she mellowed in despair was pretty funny to watch. It does seem rather unfair on all the students that they have to prepare all those dishes straightaway when they came back from a stern test. It’s amazing how quickly Soma prepared those 50 dishes. I hope Ikumi and Megumi and the rest of the Polar Star Gang manage to make those 50 dishes just in time.

Soma and Erina humming to the ending song was pretty fun to watch. Soma’s humming and dancing was really funny watch whilst Erina’s humming was relaxing to watch. I didn’t think they would bump into each other any time soon. I wonder what’s going to happen next. I’d imagine Erina is just going to give Soma a lot of verbal abuse. Haha.

FA Cup Trophy

It’s the FA Cup Final today and I’m really looking forward to it. As I understand it if Villa win the cup, they play in the Europa League next season, if Arsenal win, Southampton play in the Europa League next season.

Either way I do feel sorry for the English teams who play in the Europa League as it must be gruelling for them to play on a Thursday and a Sunday. Look what happened to Everton. They finished at the bottom half of the table. I get the feeling that the same could happen with Southampton. They had a fantastic season last season but if they play in the Europa League next season then I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t do as well as they did this season. Having said all that, they played above expectations this season and just ran out of steam near the end. I’m very pleased for them. =)

Anyway- my FA Cup prediction.

It’s going to be Arsenal 3-1 Aston Villa. I think Arsenal will just nudge Villa out but I don’t think they’ll keep a clean sheet. Let the fun times roll. =)

  1. REVIEW

WARNING: I MAY GIVE SPOILERS AWAY

I thought this anime was amazing and it’s definitely my kind of show. When I first watched No Game No Life I laughed a lot, but when I re-watched this I actually laughed much more than I did on the first occasion. And I enjoyed it just as much.

What I especially like, aside from the comedy, is the type of battles that take place. I always wanted to see a battle without the use of violence of physical punch up and No Game No Life offers just that. It’s like a battle of wits and intelligence as well as the use of mind games. Everything is literally decided through games and I really, really like that kind of concept. It’s unique but very refreshing.

The battles, which are never resolved with violence, are far from boring. I find them incredibly exciting and clever. There are scenes or little dialogue quips that often indicate a victory for Blank. When I’ve watched this show for the first I was amazed at how clever these hints were and I really like how the flow of the battles and story go. I like the sort of games that were played too. You could literally play any kind of game. Chess games suits Kurumi and the word game suits Jibril as she is the playful type who likes to mess around.

The last battle of the show was just brilliant and I especially liked how everyone kept on dodging and shooting each other. They kept on cancelling each other out. I was especially pleased that Izuna ended up having fun playing against Sora and Shiro. It’s nice to see that enemies can get along. Well, to be honest, I don’t think there are any enemies that exist in this show, they’re more like challengers. Izuna is a good example. She was playing a game to keep her country’s territory but I wouldn’t say she’s an enemy as she didn’t really do anything wrong. Her fellow countrymen didn’t do anything wrong either. They cheated in games but they could get away with it because they never get caught.

I like the concept that each chess piece represents certain life races, with Inmanity being in 16th place. I think Sora and Shiro want to conquer all the races so that when they come together, they can take on Tet, aka, God. He’s a cool customer Tet but I wonder if he held himself back when he played Blank in that chess game. All the other races are cool too. I especially like the elves and Fifi, but I also like Jibril and the Flugel race. It makes me curious what the higher ranked races are like, especially the Phantasm who appear to have their own travelling planet to stay on.

The Ex Deus no doubt will be incredibly strong but so far I get the impression that they’re acting like advisors for Tet. The Phantasm look to be a formidable race too. They have their own planet/land type thing that floats and travels in the air so they must be strong.

Sora and Shiro are actually quite interesting as individuals. For two people who do not blend in society well they certainly have adapted to this game world. It’s quite interesting how Sora was able to read situations and atmosphere as well as out-witting people. If someone lacks experience in society you would have thought he’d struggle to read the atmosphere and understand how people’s minds work. Perhaps he studied psychology and observed people. There’s a difference between observing people and interacting with them.

I seriously feel sorry for Steph. Sora and Shiro completely use her and humiliate her in many ways. It went to the point where they used her name as a derogatory term. Haha. I actually think Steph is the best character in this show and I really think she’s underrated and overlooked due to being a “Steph.” Whoops, I just insulted her by accident. Haha. I think it’s pretty funny how Steph’s Granddad resembles the same King from the deck of cards. Haha. =D

If Steph never existed in this show then Sora and Shiro would never have won many battles. And if it wasn’t for her Blank would have lost to Izuna. I think deep down I knew or more like I wanted, Steph to be the one that brings Blank victory. What I also like about Steph is her over the top reactions and when she was in a love-struck mode over Sora. I could literally not stop laughing when she banged her head on the tiles to the point where her head was bleeding. I was literally crying with laughter. =D

Triage X Episode Six Thoughts

Triage X anime

I can’t help but wonder if the comedy parts were inappropriate in this episode. I do always appreciate comedy moments, especially when they involve Oriha. However, I do think some of them moments did undermine the seriousness of the overall situation. Especially when you consider the fact that many people died and one of Oriha’s good friends, Aya, was shot and killed at point blank range. I’m glad she managed to avenge Aya’s death with the help of Mikoto and Arashi. I’m glad there were comedy moments but it probably would be more appropriate to leave them out of this episode.

That Wild Hunt person has a unique ability when it comes to hearing heartbeats. I’ll refer her as she as she was a lady but spoke with a man’s voice… it seems like she can mimic people’s voices and read their minds as well. I was correct with my guess that she was aware of the Black Label and was certainly aware of Oriha’s presence. Perhaps she wanted to use Oriha as bait to lure the rest of Black Label so she could take them all out.

I’m glad all the idols and the lady in the bunny outfit escaped death. It was somewhat humorous when the rest of the girls called her a ‘Grandma.’ I did enjoy that bit but I still think that too detracted from the seriousness of the situation. In that situation I would have thought that the other girls would be more desperate rather than being annoyed and name calling.

We find out at the end that Wild Hunt and the rest of the evil people were there to actually distract Black Label. This must mean that something bigger and more dangerous is going on.

Oh dear, that ending where it looks like Mikoto gets shot. Fingers crossed that she makes it out.

Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma Episode Six Thoughts

Food Wars Shokugeki no Soma

Good grief. I knew that the new mean girl was going to have a face-off with someone from the Polar Star Dormitory but I never thought she would be facing Soma so soon. It was rather nice of Soma to prevent the closure of the Don R’s club, or at least delay the inevitable. Soma really is brave to challenge the new girl by competing against her at her own game, meat. Well, if you look at it another way, brave might not be the appropriate word. Haha.

Ikumi is quite a beauty and I really like her appearance style. What I especially like about her though is her voice. It’s like she growls softly and sensually in a hypnotic way. Through research I discovered that her voice actor, Shizuka Ishigami, also voices Syr Flover from DanMachi. Syr has a soft and sweet voice and she sounds nothing like Ikumi at all but they both delight my ears. =)

Anyway, I’m somewhat nervous for Soma. I really didn’t think they’d go against each other soon. Will this battle last a couple of episodes or will it just be one episode? It looks like Megumi is going to help out with Soma and Kanichi. In some ways Megumi does remind me of Stephanie Dola from No Game No Life. Like Stephanie, Megumi is forced to try things, participate in things and is on the end of insults.

On this occasion Soma dragged Megumi along to this Don R’s club and she actually inspired him to come up with a dish. Like Stephanie Dola, even if Megumi appears to be “useless” she has actually played an important part and inspired Soma. Soma, in turn, actually inspired Megumi to add a bit of honey into her own rice recipe for breakfast. Good for her! She really is a wife in the making. If I was Soma I would slap a ring around that but he’s too passionate about food to even care about romance… for now. I think Megumi is going to play a huge part in the upcoming battle, perhaps she’ll get over her stage fright with the help of Soma. =)

I don’t really like how Erina is crushing all the clubs for her own gain, even if she is a pretty face. She does make me laugh a lot so I don’t dislike her completely. Kanichi is pretty funny how he kept on losing confidence and how his big hair started to grow back when his confidence started to come back. Haha. I think he secretly enjoyed being backed up against the wall by Ikumi.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Episode Six Thoughts

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon anime

So, it seems like everyone in the Soma Familiar are addicts and they can’t get enough of that wine. It does make me think of people who get high on drugs but here they’re getting high on wine. That’s why they’re materialistic, as is Lili, to some extent. The difference here is that Lili wants to get enough money so she can leave the Soma Familiar once and for all. I knew there was a genuine reason why Lili was being deceitful and I didn’t have it in me to dislike her. Neither, it seemed, did Bell.

I did get the impression that Lili did not bear any bad feelings towards Bell she was really desperate to leave her Familiar. When her familiar abandoned her I was eagerly waiting for Bell to come and rescue her, and he did just in time. I was pleased about that. His new Firebolt magic has really come in handy, and he used it just in time to save her.

Of course, she was feeling incredibly guilty and judged Bell for treating her nicely. I get the impression that Bell didn’t really have a reason for saving Lili, except that he wanted to. But when he was questioned he just gave her answers just for the sake of it. Sometimes people do thing for no apparent reason, and Bell just saved her just because he wanted to. It was rather emotional seeing Lili pour her heart out like that. I wonder if Hestia will allow her into her own Familiar and allow her to be Bell’s Supporter. In my opinion, she will accept her into her Familiar, albeit reluctantly as she will probably see Lili as competition. Haha.

It’s great seeing Aiz. Loki teased her about her “man running off.” I don’t imagine Aiz being the vocal type so I imagine Loki could foresaw Bell rolling away when she was “upgrading” Aiz’s level status. I’m really certain that Aiz does harbour some sort of affection for Bell and did seem insensitive over the prospect that he’s avoiding her. It was great when she helped Bell out with those Orcs and it appeared that she found Bell’s arm protector and knife on the floor.

It looks like the next episode is going to be about Aiz. I really don’t think she’ll meet Bell again anytime soon, I think they’ll meet right at the end of this series. I predict that we’ll probably get a small background and learn more about Aiz and how she earned the nickname, “Sword Princess.”

Then again… Aiz still needs to give Bell back his Hestia Knife and the arm guard he got from Eina. Perhaps Aiz will give it to him in person. However, I personally think that she’ll give it to Riveria or someone like Syr to give it to Bell instead. Who knows what will happen but I do know that I’m enjoying this anime a lot and it’s a shame that the episodes have to end so quickly.

Triage X Episode Five Thoughts

Triage X anime

This was quite an intense episode. When I read the episode title “Idol Sacrifice” I assumed that something was going to happen to Oriha, but it turns out that it’s more than one idol being sacrificed.

I had some weird vibes from those mascots. From the get go I had a feeling that they were using their costumes as criminal disguises rather than fun props. Then, those disturbing scenes happened when those mascots killed that innocent man. It was a quite upsetting when that pretty girl got shot too.

It turns out that those evil mascot people are somehow connected with Ogawa Makoto and wanted to avenge him. I’m not sure if they know that Black Label is responsible but I get the feeling that they knew that Oriha was on the scene. That means that they probably knew as well that Oriha was going to be at that building in the evening and took the opportunity to try and take her down… maybe. That Wild Hunt dude, the evil leader, said that they’ve already accomplished his plan. What is that plan? Maybe he knew about the existence of Black Label after all and everything he’s doing is his way of sending a message. Or maybe he knew that Oriha was in the building after all and he shot the girl, Aya, as bait to draw her out.

I’m certainly interested to see what Oriha is capable of without her bombs. She managed to hold her own against that white haired man. I think it might have been a bit much of Oriha and Sumire to ask of Haron to do a karate move there and then, especially since she was frightened. I think Oriha will confront Wild Hunt and they will both have a brawl. In the meantime I think the police should now get a parachute so they can catch the idols when they’re forced to jump from the eighteenth floor.

On a side note, it was nice seeing Hinako again. It was great that Arashi took the time to go to Hinako’s restaurant and dine there, although not so great as Mikoto ended up being jealous. Haha.

I went to watch the last showing of Avengers: Age of Ultron tonight. As it was Election Day I assumed a lot of people would be out casting their votes. Luckily, it was a small crowd. High School DxD Born Episode Five Thoughts

High School DxD Born

Aww, I really wanted to see Rias go all out and knock Loki senseless. Oh well, she managed to calm down, as did everyone else. I was glad to see Issei back on his feet and Ravel’s present actually came in handy. I thought that was really clever. And hey, Issei managed to land a hit on Loki, albeit he got away.

I’m not really sure what happened to Issei and Rias as Loki disappeared. It’s like he casted something mysterious on them. It’s like something that they wouldn’t consciously remember, but absorbed. Hopefully I’m just imagining things and Loki didn’t cast a mind trick on them before he left.

It was rather cute when Koneko leaned on Issei’s lap like a little kitten.

The next scene was just as lovely too. Akeno went on a date with Issei. She really looks nice with her hair down. I enjoyed Akeno being flirty and innocent on her date with Issei but I also got a little emotional when Akeno spoke about her past. It seems like she blamed her Dad for not saving her Mum. It also made sense why she often wears Shrine Maiden clothes as her battle gear as it’s like a tribute to her mum. Still, it seems like she’s able to let her past go and can move forward. Heck, she even made a bento for her Dad. I never thought I would ever see that. Akeno kissing Issei was also endearing.

It was quite humorous when Rias and co stalked Issei and Akeno on their date. Their disguises were equally as funny. I’m not sure how Issei and Akeno were able to lose tail of Rias. If Rias really tried then I’m sure she’d find them in no time.

I reckon it will only be a matter of time before Rossweisse shows an interest in Issei. If the ending sing is anything to go by she’ll probably study the relationship of all the girls with Issei and use those “tips” to get a boyfriend. But during all that she will slowly but surely develop feelings for Issei. So far Issei and Rossweisse are just acquaintances but given time I think they will really hit it off.

Rias’ cousin looks really tough and cool and I think he will give Issei a really good fight. Does he have his own peerage I wonder? I can’t remember if this was revealed or not.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Episode Five Thoughts

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon anime

First things first, congratulations to Chelsea on being the Champions of the Premier League. I think it was very well deserved. Now, back on the subject at hand.

The beginning was hilarious and cute when Hestia was crying, to the point when she was causing a flood on the table. Haha. It looks like she and Miach are on friendly terms. I wonder if this connection between Hestia and Miach is the reason that Bell was able to speak to Miach, another God, on friendly terms. She certainly made it no secret that she likes Bell. Good for her. I do fear for Bell though as there are going to be plenty of females gunning to be his girlfriend.

How nice, Hestia managed to get a date with Bell, and it was Bell who initiated it no less. He’s earned enough cash to take Hestia out to dinner. That plan was somewhat thwarted when Hestia’s fellow goddesses followed her to check out her “new man.” Haha. I really did enjoy Hestia and Bell running and hiding from Hestia’s friends. It was like watching a whimsical slapstick comedy. It all ended on a rather romantic note when Hestia and Bell stopped at the top floor of some building and looked out to the night and lights. They didn’t get to eat out at lunch but I still think it was cute as they spent time together.

Demeter is rather dashing. I almost mistook her for Freya. It was pretty funny how Demeter and co literally knocked Hestia out of the way to get to Bell. They were all treating him like a little puppy. I bet Hestia wished she wouldn’t have said anything to her friends now. She actually looks nice with her hair down but I still think she’s most charming with pigtails.

That weird pink breath that Hestia and Bell exhaled was rather unique.

I did raise my eyebrows in suspicion when Bell was reading that book. It was like he was talking to his subconscious or was talking to an evil person that took shape of him. I felt like this book had its own personality and it was trying to manipulate Bell. It was as if Bell was reading a Dark Art’s Magic book. It turns out, it was a Grimoire and once he read it, the book became useless. Whoops! Silly Bell. However, this did him good as he learnt a new move which required no chant. Firebolt. I do think he partially learned this when Lili fired her own fire beam towards that little bunny, saving Bell.

It was pretty humorous when Bell went into the dungeon and started to shoot Firebolts from his hands to the monsters. He literally just shot it one after the other to the point where he passed out. Haha. Hurray, Aiz made her appearance with Riveria, but this time she spoke. By the way Aiz and Riveria described Bell as a “kid” makes me think that they are both older than 20. It seems like most anime characters are considered “kids” if they are under the age of 20.

So, Aiz wanted to make it up to Bell, and that came in the form of the head-lap pillow. That’s quite possibly the sweetest atonement I have ever seen. It seems like Aiz healed his exhaustion too. I think I saw her blush a little. Oh my. The funniest moment came when Bell realised who she was and literally rolled forward away from her. I wonder if he did that all the way to the dungeon entrance. That would be pretty darn funny if he did. XD

Bell really wasted his opportunity there. He could have got into a conversation with his hero but instead rolled away. XD

I learned as well that those of the Soma Familiar don’t actually worship their god, but worship the wine. It still doesn’t explain why they’re money grabbers though. Is it so that they can continue to produce top quality wine? I still don’t really know why those guys are materialistic but I was correct with my previous assumption that Lili wouldn’t keep her money. It really did seem like her fellow comrades took the money from her by force. That really is a shame but hopefully we’ll get more questions answered in the next episode.

I was happy when Aiz made an appearance but I was equally as happy when Syr made a small cameo as well. Bell admitted that she was cute, which was nice, but he also admitted that her cuteness wouldn’t work as a trick. Haha. Still, I don’t think Syr would mind too much, being called cute by a guy she likes must be rewarding. 😉

Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma Episode Five Thoughts

Food Wars Shokugeki no Soma

I really wouldn’t be surprised if the Mangaka[1] of Food Wars used to be a chef. The type of ingredients and dish that has been shown in this anime are really top notch and I doubt that someone could make them up without a great deal of research. I worked in the kitchen back when I was at college and there’s no way that I would have been able to conjure up that type of food.

I always wondered what the term “shokugeki” means and I finally found out through Isshiki’s explanation. Basically, it’s a cook-off between two people who wish to battle each other. In this case, Soma wants to battle Isshiki but he declined Soma’s challenge. I think that’s probably for the best, I too would not want to see Soma lose.

Erina was completely ruthless when she beat that leader of the sumo Chanko Hot Pot Research Society. She completely demolished the building after the shokugeki battle between the two. Are all the buildings in the academy seriously in use? Why does Erina need any more? It seems like she’s abusing her authority just because she can and she doesn’t really care who she crushes as it’s all for the good of the academy.

That visualisation of Erina swimming and walking on that island was both pleasant on the eye and hilarious. I knew something funny was about to happen but I didn’t foresee a herd of hippos coming. Haha. How does Erina possess such a wild and vivid imagination? I’m not complaining though as those visualisations are fun to watch. =D

It was implied that Isshiki was holding back after he “drew” with Soma in the cook-off. That would make a lot of sense as there needs to be a biggish gap between the Elite Ten and Soma. It would be fun to watch Soma gradually reach the same level as the Elite Ten through time.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there were other dorms in the academy. If there is than I wonder if there could potentially be Shokugeki battles between dorms, like the Polar Star Dorm versus the Joe Bloggs Dorm. I think that would be pretty awesome and I would really like to see Soma team up with Megumi and Isshiki. =)
I wonder who that new girl is. I also wonder who the “target” is.

I’m going to make a big guess now and say that she’s going to challenge someone from the Polar Star gang and it will be either Megumi or Soma. Fumio hinted that everyone in the current Polar Star dorm is nowhere good enough to be part of the Elite Ten, apart from Isshiki. That makes me think that the “weak targets” will be those from the Polar Star. =)

I just want to make a shout out to the royal family to say congratulations to William and Kate on having a healthy baby girl. =) I think it was really cool that a small town crier delivered the news. I would have liked to have done that myself. =D

What does any think they’ll name her? I’m going to throw traditional names on the table such as Mary and Elizabeth but I personally believe they’ll name her Victoria. Perhaps her middle name will be Jane or May? I don’t think middle names are a necessity but quite a lot of people have them.

High School DxD BorN Episode Four Thoughts

High School DxD Born

Wow. This was such an exciting episode.

At the beginning when Rias said that the “seal” was breaking, I was like “eh? Did I miss something? Did I skip an episode by accident?” Turns out, it was just a little preview.

To me, this episode was all about Koneko and Akeno. They both accepted their own powers and strive to push forward, even if their powers have become a bad stigma from their past. I think they both looked great in their powered up forms. Akeno suits having black wings and Koneko suits the cat ears and cat tail look. I have to point out Irina as well. She looks literally angelic with those angel type wings. I never knew that she was reincarnated angel. Come to think of it… I actually don’t remember Irina dying in the previous series. Did I miss something? I think I really did miss something. What was I doing when that happened?

Anyway. It was a really good battle to watch. A few of them took on the big dogs whilst Rias, Sona and their Queens took on that big snake.

I thought it was cool that Soji got some good air time, up until now I forget he existed. Haha. I’m harsh but I can’t help the way I think. =D I sort of assumed that he wasn’t really that strong. However, it was good that he managed to bind Loki, even if it was for a short while.

When that Hammer came down I actually was waiting for Thor, the Marvel version, to come down with it. I figured that either Issei or Rossweisse would be capable to wield the hammer as a weapon. I was a bit shocked when that dog came out of nowhere and literally rendered Issei unconscious. Of course, this made all the girls; Akeno, Koneko, Xenovia and Irina go ballistic. Ironically, I think they did a lot more damage to the legendary monster than they did previously. No doubt that’s adrenaline.

It’s true in this case for Rias who looks like she’s undergoing a humongous power-up. I can’t wait for the next episode. =)

Rossweisse

I never planned to share my thoughts about anime episode as regularly as I am. I just sort of started it with DanMachi and I grew into it. I’m actually really enjoying doing this. =) The whole point of me creating this blog site is to share my thoughts and how I cope with autism. However, I haven’t really got any news to share and I feel that I would be repeating myself if I keep talking about my past experiences. It’s refreshing to just keep sharing my thoughts on certain anime, and it has become an enjoyable hobby. =)

I did go to an impromptu barbecue recently and I handled that quite well. I did almost panic when I was asked on the spot but I ended up saying yes. I learned throughout my years when coping with autism that the anticipation of an event or an outing is much more nerve-racking than the actual experience. Sometimes I can cope, sometimes I can’t. It’s all about how I feel in the moment. In that moment, I felt ok to go. And I did. =)
